A Car Accident.

Call 911 If You Are Injured.

If you are injured in a crash, assuming you are able to, call 911. Emergency responders can assess the scene and provide assistance where needed.

Make Safety Your First Priority.

Sometimes getting out of your car after an accident can be dangerous. Make sure traffic has stopped and that you are not putting yourself at risk of being struck by oncoming traffic.

Identify Any Witnesses.

Do your best to get the names and contact information of any witnesses. You never know if another driver may later dispute or change their account of what happened.

Get The Medical Care You Need.

In some crashes, it is obvious that you need to be taken to the hospital. In other situations, paramedics may ask whether you want to be transported.

You may need to decide whether to go to the hospital by ambulance, arrange transportation yourself, or seek care later. When in doubt, choose the safer option.

Photograph The Scene If It Is Safe.

If you are able to take pictures of the scene, do so when it is safe, preferably before any of the vehicles are moved.
